For this wedding, we headed to Hidden River Barn in the north of Cumbria, close to the Scotland border, for Sarah and Connor’s stunning winter celebration.
This is a special one. Not just because of the setting or the photographs, but because of the story behind it.
Planning a wedding in the Lake District while living in Germany is no small task, but somehow Sarah and Connor made it feel effortless.
The Venue: Hidden River Barn
Sarah and Connor always knew they wanted something with a rustic feel.
They initially explored getting married in Italy, a place that means a lot to them, but the style did not quite match what they had in mind.
So they turned their attention to the UK. With Connor’s family based here, it made sense, and it was not long before they discovered Hidden River Barn.
They booked it almost immediately, committing to their date two years in advance without even visiting in person.
When they finally saw it for themselves in May 2024, they knew they had made the right decision.
Planning a Wedding from Abroad
Planning a wedding from another country brought a mix of emotions.
Sarah described it as both relaxed and stressful at the same time.
They were incredibly lucky to have Connor’s mum, who previously ran her own floristry business. She created the floral arrangements herself, bringing their vision to life from her own garage.
At the same time, there were plenty of details that had to be left until they arrived in the UK, which made the final weeks before the wedding intense.
Despite everything, they would do it all again. And for a venue like Hidden River Barn, it was completely worth it.
The Wedding Day
The morning began with frost covering the grounds, creating a crisp and atmospheric start to the day.
Inside, the barn was warm and full of rustic textures, providing a beautiful contrast to the cold outside.
Preparations were split between the cabins and the courtyard. The energy built steadily as everyone got ready, with a real sense that something special was about to unfold.
A Ceremony Full of Emotion
Guests gathered inside the barn, framed by the venue’s iconic window.
The ceremony was deeply emotional, with personal vows that set the tone for the rest of the day.
Afterwards, we stepped out for portraits, making the most of the winter light and the surrounding landscape.
From Heartfelt to High Energy
The speeches continued the emotional feel of the day. There was not a dry eye in the room by the time the maid of honour finished.
Then everything shifted.
We headed outside for a champagne spray following a brilliant cake cut, and the energy lifted instantly.
A Dancefloor to Remember
As the evening began, the celebration stepped up again.
The dance floor delivered some incredible moments, with a backdrop and atmosphere that made it easy to capture some of our favourite images from the entire day.
Sarah and Connor stood out in every moment, their connection cutting through the cold winter setting and bringing warmth to everything around them.
Final Thoughts
This wedding had everything.
A beautiful setting, a strong story and a day that moved effortlessly between emotion and celebration.
