For this wedding, we headed to the Lake District for Laura and Nick’s incredible elopement, set against the breathtaking scenery of Ullswater and Hallin Fell.
This part of the world means a lot to us. After many family holidays here, and even getting engaged in the Lake District ourselves, it always feels special to return.
So being there to capture Laura and Nick’s wedding made it even more meaningful.
The Venue: Hause Hall
Perched halfway up Hallin Fell above Ullswater, Hause Hall is one of the most unique wedding venues in the Lake District.
Built from traditional slate and Lakeland stone, the property blends rustic charm with modern luxury. A stunning glass extension and terrace open out onto panoramic views across the surrounding hills.
It offers the feel of a private retreat, while still delivering a high-end, five-star experience. With ceremony and celebration all in one place, it is perfect for intimate weddings and elopements.

The Big Day
As the morning began, we arrived at Ullswater to mist rolling across the hills and a quiet stillness in the air.
It felt like the perfect start.
Laura and Nick had chosen to keep things intimate, with just their son and Laura’s parents there to witness their day. The result was something incredibly personal and full of meaning.
Their ceremony overlooked the surrounding landscape, with Hallin Fell rising behind them. It felt almost surreal, like something out of a film.

Embracing the Elements
After the ceremony, we made our way up the winding roads of Hallin Fell for portraits.
The conditions were far from perfect, but that is what made it special.
Mud, drizzle and low cloud added atmosphere rather than taking anything away. Laura and Nick embraced it all without hesitation, and it made for some incredible images.
A few moments with their custom Defender added a personal touch before we returned to Hause Hall.

A Day Full of Surprises
Back at the venue, the day continued with an incredible vegan meal prepared by the chefs.
Later, we headed back out towards Hallin Fell for evening portraits. The views had disappeared behind a thick layer of fog, but instead of holding us back, it gave us something completely different to work with.
Soft, moody and full of depth.
Then came one of the most unforgettable moments of the entire day.
A First Dance Like No Other
We made our way down to the shores of Ullswater for a surprise first dance.
A private pianist played by candlelight as Laura and Nick stepped into the lake together.
As if on cue, the rain began to pour.
But they did not stop.
They danced through it all, completely in the moment, and we kept shooting. The result was something truly special.
Moments like that cannot be planned, but they are the ones you remember forever.

Final Thoughts
This wedding was a reminder of what really matters.
No distractions, no pressure, just two people, their closest family and a setting that felt almost unreal.
When couples ask what to do if it rains on their wedding day, the answer is simple.
Embrace it.
Just like Laura and Nick did.
